InterFaith Build Framing Blitz 9/9/10

Habitat for Humanity in Mobile County will hold a framing blitz on Sept. 9th from 8am-4pm at Biloxi Street in the Hillsdale neighborhood. This framing blitz is for the InterFaith Build house, where faith partners throughout Mobile County help sponsor and build the house. The homeowner of the InterFaith Build house will be Ramona Taliaferro.

The faith partners involved with the InterFaith Build will work together to provide financial support and total volunteer labor to build the house. The mission of this build is based on Habitat’s “Theology of the Hammer” – seeking to bridge the theological differences between faiths by putting love into action.

Taliaferro and her son live in a family home that was damaged by fire in 2004. They live in two rooms of the house with no utilities or plumbing; the rest of the house is closed off and not fit to reside in. She and her son are excited to be Habitat homeowners and are eager to complete their sweat equity hours and partner with Habitat Mobile.

House Dedication--partially funded by Lowe's "Gulf Disaster Grant"

Habitat for Humanity in Mobile County will hold a house dedication ceremony for the home of Noel Sunzu and his family at 511 Line Street in the Hillsdale neighborhood on August 27th at 3:30pm. The Sunzu’s are refugees from Burundi, Africa, who came to the United States after spending years in refugee camps throughout Africa.

The home was partially funded through Lowes “Gulf Disaster Grant” and was built by community volunteers. Other volunteer groups who worked on the house include: ten Collegiate Challenge groups, AmeriCorps NCCC teams, United Way’s “Day of Caring” volunteers, and also staff members from Lowes.

This dedication ceremony is open to the public.

Junior Miss "Women Build" Event

Junior Miss "Women Build" Event

Seventeen Junior Miss contestants will volunteer downtown at Cathedral Square on June 17 from 9am-11:45am.

The Junior Miss participants will assemble a small model house in Cathedral Square as an awareness event for Habitat's Women Build, which will assist in recruiting team leaders for the November build. The participants will paint and assemble pre-cut pieces to build the house. The house will then be used in various fundraising and awareness events.
